Staff Mechanical Engineer / Consumer Hardware Products / San Francisco, CA

This position is for a company located in San Francisco, CA, and is an on-site role. The ideal candidate will possess a Mechanical Engineering background with experience in designing and developing consumer hardware products.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for consumer products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, firmware, and industrial design, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
  • Conduct detailed analyses, including FEA, thermal simulations, and hand calculations, to validate design performance.
  • Oversee the prototyping process, from concept through to testing and iteration, ensuring designs meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and manufacturers to ensure high-quality production of components and assemblies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations throughout the design and manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices within the team.

Experience Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in the consumer product industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
  • Experience with FEA and thermal analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of materials selection, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience in prototyping and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to consumer product safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
