Job Description

Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities. Our educators are passionate advocates for our scholars and their families, committed to closing the opportunity gap for underserved communities. The Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for exposing, engaging and inspiring our scholars in the exploration of a wide range of visual arts media. The ideal candidate fosters a structured classroom to promote creativity, teach foundational artistic techniques and integrate art history and appreciation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a standards-aligned visual arts curriculum that supports the academic and creative development of all scholars.
  • Teach a variety of media and techniques, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art.
  • Plan and coordinate the annual Middle School Art Show for all grade levels by selecting scholar work, curating displays and engaging the school community as a whole.
  • Integrate elements of art history and contemporary art into classroom instruction.
  • Foster a respectful, positive and inclusive classroom culture that celebrates diverse artistic voices and scholar backgrounds.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with families regarding scholar progress and classroom activities.
  • Organize and showcase scholar work through exhibitions and community displays.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and content areas to support interdisciplinary learning and project-based experiences.
  • Regularly assess scholar progress and provide constructive feedback to support growth.
  • Manage art supplies, equipment, and classroom safety procedures.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; preferred with a focus in Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering most of the employee premium for the base medical plan and subsidizing costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parental leave, subsidized childcare, paid time off, referral bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan.
